Militer bukan demokrasi. Chain of command harus dijaga. Kalau setiap perintah atasan militer harus dimusyawarahkan terlebih dahulu, bisa keburu dibom sama musuh. Bahkan sejak jaman Sparta gw yakin kejadiannya gak kayak gini: Raja Leonidas pada 299 pendekar Sparta six-pack lainnya: “Eh guys, kita diancem sama Raja Xerxes nih. Baiknya gimana ya bro menghadapi ini?” Pendekar Sparta no. 129: “Das, kita obrolin dulu antar kita2 sambil ngupi2. Ke Sevel dulu kita?” Pendekar Sparna no. 65: “Bentar, kenapa kita gak musyawarah dulu mau ngupi2 di mana?” Gw jadi inget soal Pengadilan Nuremberg (The Nuremberg Trials – artikel Wikipedia di sini). Ini adalah seri pengadilan yang mengadili […]

A Letter To My Imaginary Child

I don’t have a child. Not that I don’t want one, but I guess the stork hasn’t gotten the instruction yet. Or it got lost in Riau smoke. God knows. Nevertheless, at my I age I start to feel parental instinct. That I wished I had a child to talk to. Or to write to. To share what I learned so far living. And hence I am writing this letter. This is a letter to my imaginary child. But perhaps, it could speak to other people’s real child too 🙂   A Letter To My (Imaginary) Child   Dear Son/Daughter, Let me start with an apology I am sorry you were not brought into a perfect world Instead, you were born into a place full of suffering, of natural disasters, but worst of all, you will be living among humans full with faults, same as you. But let me assure you, that this imperfect world provides opportunities of little paradises along the way That human kind is given the precious ability to feel Because even though you will feel anger, sad, hate, grieved, despair, betrayed, alone, afraid So too you will feel love, hope, joy, compassion, friendship, and courage You will fall and stumble on your journey. Everybody will. But do not dwell at the bottom and whimper for too long Because believe me when I tell you, Victory may lie at the destination, but true glory is when someone […]

Customer is King, But Not Necessarily The Smartest

“Customer is King”, so goes the old adage. In the marketing world, this expression has almost never gone unchallenged. There are companies who will do anything to know what the customers want, through extensive consumer research and survey. The problem that I had is, a lot of important marketing strategic decisions were let to customers to decide, because, well, they are “King”. Unfortunately, this blind interpretation of “customer is King” often costs companies great innovation opportunities, or great communication ideas. Let me explain this by first proposing a further interpretation of “customer is King”. Customer is King, but the King is not necessarily the smartest person in the country. There, I said it. To me customer is King means companies should act in the best interest of the customers. Because that’s how companies retain their customers and keep the business. But it is not the same with treating the King (customers) as the smartest people in the world, or as marketing experts, because they are NOT. That’s why a King does not have to design its own castles, or train his own army, or design its own weapons. He has competent people in their fields to do all that, and eventually, by letting the experts do their job, the King eventually reaps the benefits himself. Again, let me say it. The King is not the smartest person in the kingdom, and letting him decide on things that are not his expertise may […]

Laporan Survey Kepuasan Pasangan 2014

Akhirnya sesudah mengumpulkan 1,186 responden, sejak tanggal 30 Desember 2013 sampai 3 Januari 2014, maka Survey Kepuasan Pasangan ditutup. Berikut adalah laporannya. Yay!

It’s Okay To Be Afraid

It’s okay to be afraid. It’s how you recognize courage. It’s okay to have doubts. It’s when you learn to have faith. It’s okay to fall. It’s how you learn to rise. It’s okay to be defeated. It’s where you learn how to win. It’s okay to be in the dark. It’s how you see the flame. It’s okay to make mistakes. It shows you the way to mastery. It’s okay to get scars. They are Life’s medals of adventures. And when you came out from trials and tribulations triumphant, It is now your privilege and duty To find a wounded soul, and tell him “It’s okay….”

Man of Steel, Man of Fate

It’s probably a bit late to write about ‘Man of Steel’ the movie, but it just shows that the movie impressed me so much, I feel compelled to write about it. [WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD] I love movies with ‘themes’, and Man of Steel is one of them. It does not matter whether it is a summer blockbuster, a high-brow “award” […]
