Review Super-Awam Reksadana

Gw BUKAN ahli/perencana keuangan. Ini hanya berbagi pengalaman pribadi. Untuk informasi lebih jelas dan bener, […]

Huawei Honor (Review Awam Balik Lagi!)

Oke, baru dapet smartphone baru Huawei Honor.

Through The Eyes of A Dying Primate.

My boss sent me this video link  Green, Death of Forests. Now, usually environmental video is not really my favorite subject (does not mean that I am ignorant about it though), but it’s not the kind of video link that I will excitedly jump onto (unlike upcoming blockbuster trailers!). Out of curiousity, I checked it out anyway (hey, the BOSS sent it!). And there I came across a “visual essay” about deforestation in Indonesia. Deforestation is not a new topic, but the movie maker is brilliant enough to tell the story through the eyes of a dying orang-utan (her name is Sandra. And according to the movie-maker’s blog, Sandra still survives but partially paralyzed :() The genius of this ‘visual essay’ is there is audio commentary. You will only hear ambient sounds, with some background music. The camera work was done at times as if we are seeing what Sandra sees. Do check out the video yourself. The first 5 minutes will already wrench your heart. If you look closely at the orang-utan scenes (do skip forward if you want, it’s a rather long video), you will notice how eerily similar orang utan with us in many ways. Look at the scared eyes, the whimpering when they are caught and tied-up, or even the ‘love’ shown between the mother and its baby.  The poor orang-utans were driven out because another species has insatiable thirst for wood and land for the palm-oil industry. Humans […]

Titanic Tales

After a tiring 4 day meeting in Singapore, I was lucky I had the time to visit the ArtScience Museum. I already saw the ad about Titanic exhibition on the flight to Singapore, so I was determined to miss it. The exhibition shows many real artifacts recovered from the wreckage. The artifacts have been restored to its original state as possible, given all of them have been at the bottom of the sea for more than 80 years. You will see jewelry, shoes, plates, cutleries, bathroom ornaments, electric fans, and countless others objects. The exhibit is also designed as if you were INSIDE the ship – with corridors of First Class and Second Class cabins, down to the boiler room where crews must put coal continuously to power the ship. You will see inside the First Class cabin, looking at how rich people travel in style at that time (which is still very stylish!) All in all, you will be at awe with the immersive experience, which makes the exhibition more than just “looking at stuff’. But to me, more than all the objects or the painstaking details in the ship interior replica, is the human stories. The exhibit goes all the way to capture the stories of the passengers. And to me personally, this is the most powerful part of the whole exhibit. The Titanic tragedy is much more than just a story of a sinking ship. It is a […]

Nah, […]

The Low-Rise Jeans Lesson.

I am NOT a fashionable person. In fact, my fashion score is probably even lower than the average person in Indonesia. There are two reasons for that: First, I really couldn’t care less about appearance. I will keep myself clean, cut my hair, clip my fingernails, and that’s it. Secondly, I find shopping for clothes a horror show. I would be overwhelmed with the choices, the need to ‘color-match’, not to mention the hassle of going to changing room. But put me in a bookstore, and I will become a happy camper for hours. This ignorance over fashion even extends to things as basic as jeans. The last time I bought a pair of jeans was probably 5 years ago. (OK, underwear is different thing! I still buy it occasionally, okay…) So after I complained a few times about old, worn old jeans without actually doing anything, my girlfriend decided enough is enough. When we happened to be within 200 meter radius of a department store, she dragged me there while I fought, biting and screaming. But actually, accompanied shopping is the best solution for me. I just need someone to pick whatever item she thinks would look good on me, and then I will try them on, if it fits, off I go to the cashier. I actually benefit from delegating the choosing task. As long as the price tag is not ridiculously expensive or the style makes me […]
